On September 27, 2021 the eleventh meeting of the Consultative Committee on Intellectual Property of the College of the Eurasian Economic Commission was held. The meeting was held in the form of a video conference.
The Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry was represented at the session by its Deputy Chairman Denis Meleshkin and Director of Belpatentservice UE Vyacheslav Trofimov.
The Eurasian Economic Commission was represented by Minister of Economy and Financial Policy Ruslan Beketayev.
The following issues were discussed at the committee:
1. The results of monitoring of law enforcement practice in the field of protection of intellectual property rights in the Eurasian Economic Union for the year 2020.
For reference: Over the past five years more than 80 million units of counterfeit goods have been identified in the EAEU countries. At the same time, if from 2016 to 2019 in the EAEU there was a general trend of increasing violations in the field of intellectual property, in 2020 13.6 million units of counterfeit goods were detected, which is 11% less than the figure for 2019."
2. Ensuring unhindered receipt of public services in the field of intellectual property in the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union.
3. The legal regulation of the protection of intellectual property rights in respect of second-hand goods.
4. The progress of work on developing within the EAEU agreed approaches to combat violations of intellectual property rights on the Internet.
"The result of the EEC's work in the field of intellectual property will be the conclusion of an agreement within the framework of the EAEU, which will lay down the basic principles on the basis of which the harmonization of the legislation of the Union states in the field of countering violations of intellectual property rights on the Internet will be carried out", - Ruslan Beketayev said.
For reference: The main objectives of the Committee are:
- Preparation of recommendations for the Commission in the field of intellectual property;
- Consultations on issues in the field of intellectual property;
- Preparation of proposals for cooperation between the authorized bodies of the member states in the field of intellectual property;
- preparation of proposals for the member states on the draft recommendations of the Commission in the field of intellectual property;
- consideration of other issues in the field of intellectual property during consultations, including on behalf of a member of the Board, whose competence includes issues in the field of intellectual property, as well as preparation of proposals on these issues
