"Round table" on the development and promotion of national and regional brands is held.
From August 27 to 28, 2021 the cultural and sports festival "Vytoki Sources . Step to Olympus". The bright and popular festival has already been held in Lida, Orsha, Kobrin, Mozyr, Bobruisk and Soligorsk. Within the framework of this event, a round table discussion on the development and promotion of national and regional brands was held in the Town Hall on August 27.
Presentations at the round table were made by Natalia Shashkova, the head of trademark department of the National Centre of Intellectual Property ("The potential for regional brands in terms of practice of the Law "On geographical indications") and Vyacheslav Trofimov, the director of the "BelpatentService" of, BelCCI patent attorney ("The protection of regional brands").
In his speech Mr. V. Trofimov suggested to involve into the orbit of the regional brands of our country such an object of industrial property rights as plant varieties, which names are based on the local geographical indications besides the already used means of individualization in the form of trademarks and geographical indications.
Many questions at the event showed the interest of specialists of enterprises and departments in the promotion of regional brands to identify traditional, unique products that can attract the interest of consumers, stimulate domestic producers through state support measures, economic development of regions by increasing production and attracting labor, protecting the interests of local producers, by registering geographical names and trademarks, manufacturing products using regional brands for subsequent export.
