The Treaty on trademarks, service marks and appellations of goods` origin of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) of February 3, 2020 enters into force on April 26.
The Treaty on trademarks, service marks and appellations of goods` origin of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) of February 3, 2020 entered into force on April 26.
It is noteworthy that the treaty entered into force on the International Intellectual Property Day.
The treaty, in particular, provides for:
- introduction of the concepts of " EAEU trademark" and " EAEU appellation of goods` origin ",
- possibility of filing one application for a trademark or an appellation of origin in any of the Patent Offices of the EAEU countries with the following obtaining legal protection simultaneously in all the EAEU countries,
- interaction of the applicant with only one office - "single window" principle,
- maintenance of the Single register of the EAEU trademarks and the Single register of appellations of origin of the EAEU placed on the official website of the EAEU.
In the near future there will be approved the instruction containing the procedural rules for the implementation of the provisions of the agreement, as well as the necessary technological processes will be built to ensure the acceptance of applications under the established procedures.
The launch of the regional intellectual property registration system in the EAEU will enhance the integration effect of the union, including in the development of business activities, increase the competitiveness of the national economies of the Union, as well as provide additional investment attractiveness of the EAEU market. Application of the agreement will lead to the reduction of time and financial costs for legal protection will help to bring goods under Eurasian brands to the market of the Union.
