New changes of the Civil Code, of the Law «On trademarks» and of the Law «On geographical indications» have been adopted by the law of the Republic of Belarus «On amendments and additions to certain laws of the Republic of Belarus concerning the matters of legal protection of industrial property objects» dated July 9, 2012. These amendments and additions entered into force on January 15, 2013. The law aims to bring into line the legislative enactments of the Republic of Belarus with the Agreement on common regulatory principles for the intellectual property protection and enforcement within the Common Free Market Zone of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Russian Federation. The law carries the regional exhaustion principle of trademark rights into effect. The same law restores the norm according which all trademark license agreements, trademark assignment agreements, trademark pledge agreements are to be registered before the Belarusian patent office (National Center of Intellectual Property).
