On 27-28 April, the National Library of Belarus hosts the forum "Intellectual Property in Belarus"

On April 27-28, the National Library of Belarus hosted the forum "Intellectual Property in Belarus", dedicated to the World Intellectual Property Day and the 30th anniversary of the National Center of Intellectual Property.

It was organized by the National Center of Intellectual Property with the support of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO), the State Committee for Science and Technology of Belarus.

The Forum was opened by EAPO President Grigory Ivliev, who congratulated the participants on the anniversary of the National Center of Intellectual Property and the fact that on April 14, 2022 the Protocol on the Protection of Industrial Designs to the Eurasian Patent Convention with respect to the Republic of Belarus came into force. From now on Belarusian applicants will be able to independently submit Eurasian applications for industrial designs. Patents for them will be valid on the territory of seven EAPO states that have ratified the protocol.

Sergey Shlychkov, Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology, addressed the participants of the event with a welcoming speech, stating at the forum that the State Committee for Science and Technology is seriously interested in protecting the rights of Belarusian copyright holders abroad.

Addresses of several heads of various patent organizations from around the world were shown on the screens. In particular, the address of the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, Mr. Darrell Dang, which was posted on the WIPO website marking the International Intellectual Property Day, was demonstrated.

Chairman of the State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China Shen Chanyu addressed the attendants, participants and guests of the International Forum for the Protection of Intellectual Property right from Beijing.

The event was attended by the leadership of the State Committee for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the National Center of Intellectual Property, the Eurasian Patent Office of the Eurasian Patent Organization, the Federal Service for Intellectual Property of the Russian Federation and the Department of Economic Cooperation of the CIS Executive Committee.

The forum program included two one-day regional seminars -  "The role of intellectual property in innovative development" and "Current trends in the development of industrial designs legal protection systems in the Eurasian region". During the first day of the forum, its participants discussed a number of topical issues related to the development, improvement, transformation of intellectual property in modern realities at the national, regional and international levels. The discussion was attended by representatives of government agencies and organizations, scientists, domestic and foreign experts in the field of intellectual property. During the second day of the forum, the discussions concerned issues such as problems and prospects for the development of legal protection of industrial designs, trends in legal protection of software in the EAPO member states, the regional system of industrial designs legal protection and requirements for Eurasian applications for industrial designs.

On the second day of the forum, on April 28, 2022, the National Library hosted a solemn event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the founding of the National Office of Intellectual Property of the Republic of Belarus.

The solemn meeting was attended by the management, employees and veterans of the National Center of Intellectual Property, as well as friends, partners and honored guests of the Center. The event was also attended by Vyacheslav Trofimov, Director of the "Belpatentservice" Unitary Enterprise by Belarusian Chamber of Commercce and Industry.

Congratulations from the State Committee for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade, the Ministry of Education, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Republican Scientific and Technical Library, the Belarusian Institute of System Analysis and Information Support of the Scientific and Technical Sphere, the Belarusian Union of Composers, the Belarusian Association of Patent Attorneys, the National Patent Information Center of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, Federal Intellectual Property Service of the Russian Federation were announced during the celebration.

 

The heads of the intellectual property departments of the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Serbia, as well as Michal Schwantner, the ex-Director of the Department of Countries with Transition and Developed Economies of the World Intellectual Property Organization, delivered congratulations in the format of a video message.
